Samsung wanted to put a unique spin on a video campaign to showcase their newest line of goods, one that emphasized the mobile experience first and foremost. Fortunately, wild agreed to participate in the initiative before the video shoot with Austria’s best living skier, Marcel Hirscher, took place. Because we were able to develop our concept quickly, we were able to ensure that it was filmed in a manner that was usable on both portrait mobile displays and conventional desktop screens, which was critical.

The design promotes Samsung’s goods through the use of an agile and easy system for scrolling across the movie, which follows Marcel Hirscher on an action-packed urban pursuit around Seoul.

To avoid dealing with them, though, here’s how to turn them off – or at the very least, how to turn them almost completely off. First and first, let us discuss the nature of the situation at hand. The initial reaction many tech fans have when they see individuals complaining about Samsung’s advertisements is to remark, “Hey, it’s not a huge problem, you can turn them off,” despite the fact that the person has plainly opted in.

Samsung places these advertisements in its applications and alerts knowing full well that the ordinary consumer will breeze through the setup process without recognizing that they’ve agreed to participate in the program.

To begin, you may make any website become a reminder by adding a reminder button to it. 4. Personalize your audio experience

According to Samsung, they will produce an audio experience that is personalized exactly to your preferences, which will be especially effective while you are using headphones. Having tweaked the settings to your liking, the phone will remember your preferences and use those settings for calls, music, movies, and any other sound it produces in the future. 5. Hide apps and files

Samsung Galaxy phones are pre-loaded with the Secure Folder software, which functions as a digital safe on your phone thanks to its encryption. You may use this section to conceal applications and folders, and you can safeguard them with a password, PIN, or fingerprint scan. Launch the Secure Folderapp from your app drawer to begin configuring your safe. Then, to set up the security lock, just follow the on-screen instructions provided. Then, when you’ve protected the app with a password, you can use the Add applications and Add files options to add new items into the Secure Folder, which will remain hidden from anybody who could get access to your phone.

The first step in connecting your bank accounts with Samsung Pay is to launch the app, which is already pre-installed on your phone.

In order to use the app, you’ll need to create a Samsung account that is password-protected. If you haven’t previously done so, the app will lead you through the procedure. You should next proceed to the store and prepare yourself to pay with your smartphone.

7. Take notes on the lock screen

Ads are taking over Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones — and it needs to stop

For over four years, I’ve carried a Samsung Galaxy smartphone with me practically everywhere I go. It was because Samsung made wonderful hardware that was complemented by (usually) good software that I decided to utilize them. However, in 2020, a Samsung phone is no longer my primary mode of transportation, and there’s a simple explanation for this: advertisements.

Ads Everywhere

Until recently, advertisements on Samsung phones didn’t really upset me, at least not in a noticeable way. The Galaxy Z Flip was the starting point. What really drew my attention was a tweet from Todd Haselton of CNBC, which you can find embedded below. In the stock dialer app, Samsung has placed an advertisement from DirectTV. What Samsung has done here is something I would have never imagined from any other smartphone maker, let alone Samsung. The address or phone number appeared under the “Places” page of the dialer app, which is in cooperation with Yelp and allows you to search for different companies right from the dialer app, saving you the time and effort of having to Google anywhere to find the address or number.

  • Samsung strategically put the advertisement in a location where it would be difficult to distinguish from the surrounding environment in order to maximize revenue.
  • Advertisements for Samsung Music are designed to seem like another tune in your library.
  • Advertisements for the stock weather app appear to be from the news media.
  • Despite the fact that Spotify is integrated into the Samsung Music app, Samsung Music will display a pop-up advertisement for Sirius XM.
  • It will be right back where you left it a week later, waiting for you.

If you’re curious which Samsung applications feature advertisements, I’ve compiled a list of all the ones I’ve come across, as well as ad-free alternatives to each of them, below.

Why are there even ads in the first place?

It is necessary to understand why large corporations market in order to fully comprehend Samsung’s ludicrous and bad advertising on its devices. Google advertises because even if its “free services” are provided for no charge, the company still has to make a profit. The advertisements that Google serves you in Google services assist to support the costs of those 15GB of storage, Google Voice phone number, unlimited Google Photos storage, and other features. In conclusion, there is a rationale for it, and you are receiving something in exchange for clicking on those advertisements.

  • They must be reimbursed for the services that they are offering to you for no charge.
  • There was no requirement for you to acquire a product, such as hardware or software, in order to have access to their content and services.
  • The difference between Samsung and other companies is that you are paying — for their stuff.
  • While Samsung does not disclose the profit margins on their products, it is not beyond the realm of possibility to speculate that these margins should be sufficient to pay the cost of the services by a factor of 10 or greater.
  • In order for Samsung to operate a successful business, its margins must be high enough to fund these services.
  • These advertisements are appearing on my $1,980 Galaxy Fold, $1,380 Z Flip, $1,400 S20 Ultra, $1,200 S20+, $1,100 Note 10+, $1,000 S10+, $750 S10e, and $100 A10e, as well as my $1,980 Galaxy Fold.
  • Other large phone manufacturers provide nearly identical services without the need for advertisements in their stock applications to subsidize their offerings.
  • Of course, some of these OEMs include pre-installed bloatware, such as social media apps like Facebook and Spotify, as well as streaming services like Netflix, but these can typically be deactivated or deleted.

You can’t disable them

If you’re a Samsung user who’s taken the time to read through this, you might be thinking, “How can I turn off the advertisements?” Unfortunately, the answer is that you (for the most part) cannot. You have the option of disabling Samsung Push Services, which is occasionally used to deliver alerts from Samsung applications to your device. In other words, removing Push Services means no more push notification adverts, but it also means no more push notifications in general, at least in some of the Samsung applications.

  1. You can turn off personalized marketing alerts in the Settings menu, but this simply prevents targeted advertisements from being displayed.
  2. You may turn off Customization Services, which Samsung utilizes to gather information about you in order to serve you customized advertisements, but you will still see the advertisements.
  3. Some of you may not be aware of advertisements on your Samsung phone.
  4. As I previously stated, Samsung does an excellent job at concealing their advertisements and making them appear to be native content that would typically be seen in the corresponding app.

The solution

Samsung, you are already aware of the problem. It’s all about getting rid of the advertisements. Ads serve no useful purpose after charging us such exorbitant amounts, and the only way to solve this is to eliminate them completely from the market. While I feel that advertisements should not be included in any smartphone, I believe it is particularly heinous to have them in devices that cost as much as Samsung’s do. Furthermore, if Samsung asserts that it need advertisements to subsidize the price of the phone or the services included, it is operating a terrible company.

As a result, what do you think about making them a bit more user friendly?

No need for anything elaborate, simply a choice in the settings that allows you to opt out of adverts on a system-wide basis in all Samsung apps will suffice.

The alternative option is to include all of these advertisements into Samsung’s Global Goals.

It was launched in 2015.

It’s possible to contribute to an in-app income pool by using Samsung Pay, Google Pay, or enabling adverts on your lock screen, which would then be used to support those 17 goals.

Following some basic arithmetic and testing in Global Goals, I’ve determined that each advertisement is worth around 5 cents.

This advertising money may be put to greater use by Samsung Global Goals.

For the sake of this analysis, I’m going to assume that the CPM (cost per thousand users) of an advertisement in a Samsung app is around $5.

We already know that Samsung delivered over 300 million smartphones in 2019.

And that’s just for the phones they sold in the year 2019 alone!

This is really simple mathematics – some clients will receive no advertisements, while others will receive more than one.

Unfortunately, we do not have access to the actual data, and Samsung has stated that they would not provide them any time soon.

However, whether the money is donated to a good cause or not is really beside the point.

Something must be done, and it need not be any of the proposals I made above.

This is a horrible look, and it is something that we, as members of the technology community, will not forget or overlook.

That doesn’t sit well with me at all.
