Because to the MBR function, you just need one remote control to operate all of your devices simultaneously. Take advantage of the far more convenient experience that MBR provides.

What is MBR?

MBR is an abbreviation for Multi-Brand Remote Control, and it is sometimes referred to as a Universal Remote Control or One Remote Control. This feature will prevent you from switching from one remote to another when utilizing different devices that are connected to your TV. Using a single Samsung remote control, you can simply operate all of your external devices, including your home theater system, gaming console, and Blu-ray players.

Initial MBR setup for a new TV

With a fresh new Samsung TV, there is a stage for the MBR initial configuration that must be completed before the TV can be used. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the task. Connect all of your external devices to your television and turn them on at the same time to identify them. The external devices will be immediately detected and registered by your television.

MBR setup for a new external device

Alternatively, if the Smart TV does not identify the external devices automatically, you may configure MBR directly on the TV. Manually configuring MBR may be accomplished by following the methods outlined below. The first step is to pick Universal Remote from the Source menu by pressing the Home button. Step 2: Click on the New Device button. Choosing the Device Type on the TV screen is the third step. Step 4.Finish the configuration by following the on-screen directions. Note:

  • The MBR function is only supported by remotes that are Bluetooth-enabled. However, starting with the 2019 model, the MBR feature is supported even if the remote does not have a Bluetooth connection
  • Depending on the external device connected to the TV, the MBR function may or may not be supported. Check to see that there are no obstructions in front of the external device or the logo on your television. This has the potential to produce signal problems. Although the device images and menu shown here are merely a sample in English, they are also accessible in the language of your choice.

How to Set-up and Use a Universal Remote Control

A Universal Remote simplifies the process of controlling your television and other components.

Before you begin, be certain that you have the following items:

  • Install the batteries in the Universal Remote control unit. During programming, you may aim the Universal Remote at the TV or another device you’re attempting to control to get it to work. If this “link” is no longer functional, you will have to start over with the programming procedure.

Specific programming choices and processes may differ depending on the brand and type of universal remote control being used. The following are samples of possibilities that you could encounter and the procedures that might be necessary in some cases.

Direct Code Entry

The quickest and most straightforward method of programming a Universal Remote is to input a code that corresponds to the product you desire to manage. Codes may be supplied in the form of a “code sheet” or a web page in which the codes are listed by brand and kind of device, respectively (TV, Blu-ray Disc player, Home Theater Receiver, Cable Box, VCRs, and sometimes media streamers).

  1. Activate the gadget that you wish to operate
  2. On your Universal Remote Control, press and hold the appropriateDEVICEbutton for a few seconds (some remotes require that you press a Setup button before pressing the device button). The device’s LEDs, as well as the power buttons, will be illuminated. Despite the fact that the buttons are designated for a certain device, you may use them to control any compatible device
  3. However, you must remember which button relates to the device you are controlling. While holding down the device button on the remote, enter the CODE for the device’s brand into the remote. If a brand has more than one code, start with the first one that appears on the label. The power button on the remote will be turned off as soon as you input the code. 4. Continue to hold down the device button after you have entered a code. If the power button on the remote illuminates and remains illuminated, you have input the proper code. If the power button flashes many times, it means that the code you provided was incorrectly inputted. After each time you are unsuccessful, go through the code entering process again for each code until one of them works. Check to determine if the universal remote operates the fundamental operations of your device after it has been programmed. For example, a universal remote control should be able to switch on and off a television, as well as modify the volume, channel, and source input. If you’re utilizing Direct Code Entry, make a note of the successful code(s) in your user guide so you can go back to them later.

Auto Code Search

If you don’t have access to the precise code for the brand or kind of device you want to operate, you may utilize Auto Code Search to find it for you. After then, the Universal Remote will scan its database, checking a number of different codes at the same time. Here’s an example of what you may expect to happen:

  1. Activate your television or any other electronic item that you desire to operate. Press and hold theDEVICEbutton on your remote control that corresponds to the product you wish to operate for two seconds (TV, etc.). As previously said, you may use any gadget with any of the indicated buttons—just make sure you note down which ones you use. Once more, press the Device Button and the POWERbutton at the same time to turn on the computer. The power button will turn off and then turn back on again after a short period of time. Image from a distance Courtesy of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society
  2. Release both buttons at the same time
  3. When you press and release thePLAYbutton on the remote control, wait a few seconds and check to see whether the device you are attempting to control has been disabled. If this is the case, it has discovered the proper code. If your device is still turned on, hit the play button once again and go through the waiting and turning off process one more, if necessary. Continue to do so until your gadget shuts off. Then, every two seconds, push and release the REVERSEbutton on your remote control until your device comes back on again. After then, the remote has successfully looked for the proper code
  4. However, it may take a little longer. To save the code, click on the STOP button. Test a few different features on the remote to check whether they are compatible with your device.

Brand Code Search

Using a process similar to Auto Code Search, you may be able to narrow down your search to a specific brand of clothing or footwear. If a manufacturer supplies more than one code, this search will come in helpful for finding them all. The steps are as follows:

  1. Activate the device that you desire to manage (such as a television set, VCR, DVD player, DVR, satellite receiver, or cable box)
  2. Identify your Universal Remote Control brand code(s) from the list that was supplied with your remote control. Press and hold theDEVICEbutton that you desire to program for many seconds. (TV, DVD, Auxiliary, and so forth.) When the LED for that button illuminates and remains illuminated, continue to hold down that button. In addition to holding down the device button, press and hold thePOWERbutton until the power button illuminates. Release the power and device buttons on your device. The device button should remain activated (if it does not, repeat the procedure). Enter the firstCODEof the brand into the keypad of the universal remote control. The LED light associated with the gadget button should stay illuminated at all times. RCA provided the remote image
  3. Hold down the Power button and press and release it repeatedly until the gadget you are attempting to control turns off. if the gadget shuts down, it means that the Universal Remote has discovered the proper code. In order to store the code, press the STOP button on your universal remote control (the LED light will turn off). Check to check if your Universal Remote can now operate the device by pressing a variety of buttons (volume, etc.). This indicates that you have exhausted the codes for that brand and that you must use another programming technique. If your device does not switch off and the LED light blinks four times, this indicates that you have exhausted the codes for that brand.

Manual Code Search

If you don’t want the remote to automatically scan through all of the brand codes, you might be able to program the remote by having it verify each code one at a time. However, keep in mind that this procedure might take a long time as there are so many codes. The following are the procedures to take in order to activate this option:

  1. Activate your television or any other electronic item that you desire to operate. Press and hold the correspondingDEVICEandPOWERbuttons on the remote control at the same time to activate the device. Hold both buttons down until the power button illuminates, and then release both buttons
  2. While pointing the remote at the TV or another device, press and hold the Power button on the remote for 2 seconds
  3. Then repeat the process. If the power to your TV or gadget is turned off, this indicates that the remote has identified the proper Code. To save the code, press the STOP button. Image from a distance Courtesy of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society
  4. To ensure that your device does not fail to switch off, click the Power button a second time to cause the remote to check the following code stored in the database: Continue to follow this procedure until a code is discovered.

Programming via IR Learning

Using the infrared learning approach, which is supported, you must position your universal remote and the remote of the device you intend to operate in such a way that they are pointed at each other. As a result of this procedure, infrared control light beams may be transmitted from one device to another via the universal remote.

  1. Select the proper device from the drop-down menu: TV, computer, etc. Activate the learning mode on your universal remote to begin learning new commands. If your remote does not have a Learn button, you will need to consult the user handbook to identify which button serves this purpose
  2. Not all Universal Remotes have this feature. Press a function button on the universal remote (for example, volume up) and then press the equivalent function button on the device’s remote (for example, volume up)
  3. Replicate these procedures for each function on your universal remote that you want to copy (such as volume up and down), and you’ll have a working universal remote in no time.

This is a time-consuming and tiresome operation, especially if you want to operate a large number of devices at once. When other approaches fail, or if you do not have access to the remote control codes, you may be able to use the IR learning process as a last resort, assuming that your Universal Remote supports this programming option, as a final resort.

Programming via PC

Another programming option for some Universal Remotes is through the use of a personal computer. Logitech Harmony is one of the brands that offers this functionality. Logitech donated the image for this post. To save the hassle of hunting for the necessary code, you may simply connect a Logitech Harmony Remote to your computer through a USB connection. All of your programming is done online using the Logitech Harmony website, which not only has a constantly updated database of around 250,000 control codes, but also retains all of your programming setup settings for quick access whenever you need it.

  1. Make a selection or input the model number of your Logitech Harmony Universal Remote Control
  2. Specify the types and brands of devices that you desire to be able to manage. Construct Activities that will enable you to turn on and do various extra activities across multiple devices at the same time.

The Bottom Line

A universal remote is a terrific way to free up some space on your coffee table, but keep the following things in mind while using one:

  • A universal remote control does not always function as a complete substitute for your original remote control. Some remote controls just operate the most basic features, while others may let you to access extensive image and sound settings, as well as network and Smart TV or home control feature settings. However, you may still need to use the original remote for some or all of the advanced capabilities, so keep it, as well as a spare set of batteries, in a convenient location where you can locate them. Not all Universal Remotes can be upgraded
  • Certain models are ineligible. Observe what programming alternatives are offered when shopping for a Universal Remote when you are looking for one. When changing the batteries, check to see whether the remote includes a temporary memory that preserves control information for a few minutes so that you don’t lose your settings. If you don’t, you may have to reprogramme the remote control.

As previously stated at the start of the page, programming choices and methods may differ from one Universal Remote Brand/Model to another, depending on the manufacturer. Specific information can be found in your user handbook. FAQ
