The Samsung J series is the entry level smartphone for the Samsung Galaxy range, sitting below the more well-known S and A range.
To put it bluntly, the Samsung J series is on the budget end. It’s Samsung’s effort to create a range of phones for the lower end of the market, and in doing that they’ve created a series of phones that are really affordable and great for everyday use.
Let’s take a deeper look at what’s on offer.
Which J-series has the best battery life?
The Samsung Galaxy J7 (3300 mAh) and the Samsung Galaxy J5 (3100 mAh) will give you the longest battery life. That’s up to nine hours of 4G internet use or 18 hours of talk time before they’ll need re-charging.
At the lowest end, the Samsung Galaxy J1 ace (1800 mAh), still gives you eight hours of 3G internet and 10 hours of talk time.
And if you’re running low, you can always kick into the Ultra Power Saving Mode, a perfect option if you’ve forgotten your charger.
Why does the J series have a dual SIM?
All the Samsung Galaxy J series provide the option to have dual SIM. This is great on so many levels. If you’re travelling abroad, you can keep one SIM open for your family back home and the other set to your local network. Or if you use your phone for work and play, you can give out separate numbers and not end up carrying around multiple phones.
The downsides to the dual SIM option is that your battery may not last as long,as the phone needs to be working harder. You may also find your connectivity is not as great.
Do I get 4G LTE as standard on a J-series?
All of the Samsung Galaxy J series support 3G and 4G LTE, except the J1 ace, which only supports 3G. That basically means if you decide on the ace, you’ll spend longer waiting as your phone tries to load directions or play videos.
How good are the J-series cameras?
The bottom line is, the more you’re willing to spend, the better the camera will be. At the top end of the Samsung J series, the J7 and the J5 both carry a 13MP main camera and a 5MP selfie camera, which means you’ll get bright, clear photos.
All the 2016 models use the Samsung Super Amoled screen display technology which means the colours will be brought to life as you view your photos and videos. Another plus for a pretty affordable phone.
How fast are J-series phones?
Starting at 1.2GHZ Quad Core processor with the J1 ace, the J3 and the J5, the Samsung Galaxy J7 packs a punch with a 1.6GHz Octa Core processor. This means if you want to enjoy fast gaming and lag-free downloading, go with the J7.
