What is the Samsung Push Service

What is the Samsung Push Service and why is it on this device? The Samsung Push Service is used to provide updates and notifications for services exclusive to Samsung. Basically, what it does is display a new message or badge whenever there is an update. The main purpose of this internet-based communication platform is to allow publishers of websites, applications, and central servers to make messaging requests.

The Samsung Application Push Service (SAP) serves to support the notification messages as well as command or control messages for certain applications such as breaking news for the ABC news app or updates for other applications that may improve functionality. The utility receives the “push” notification message from a publisher of a Samsung application, and it then begins running in the background and downloading or updating certain services exclusive to Samsung. This could be the S Calendar, S Voice, S memo, messaging, or any other Samsung only service or app. It is responsible for executing notifications, messages, and e-mails.

Prior to the Samsung Push service there was real single reliable way of updating these applications without having Samsung Apps installed on your device. However, the Samsung Push service can also push app offers and other notifications to your phone. Users complain of app offers and blame the app for draining their battery.

Can I Uninstall the Samsung Push Service?

Is the Samsung Push Service worth it? Many people are choosing to attempt to figure out how to remove this utility from their phone. You can simply temporarily opt-out of push notifications; you will need to opt-out each time you update Samsung Apps because it will install again each time. You can also freeze the app if you really want to stop it. Other people are using third party tools to force it to uninstall and remove it completely from their device.

Uninstalling the Samsung Push Service will cause you to lose some notifications for certain apps. If you think this app is causing problems you may just need to refresh it and reinstall it or clear the cache and disable it all together.

Settings > Application Manager > All/Download list > Samsung Push Service

From there you will need to clear the cache and force stop. If this does not work, there is also a disable option.

Not everyone uses all of the preinstalled apps and after seeing the Samsung Push Service running, most wonder “What is the Samsung Push Service and why is it on my device?” It typically comes preinstalled on the device. Uninstalling this app may actually cause a noticeable increase in the battery life on Samsung devices. You may benefit from sorting through the preinstalled apps and figuring out which ones you use and which ones you don’t. You can always reinstall an app that you thought would not cause problems and find out that it is causing functionality issues.
